boy scouts of america

Mason has officially "crossed over" from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. We had a ceremony a couple weeks ago, where the boys assembled a bridge to symbolize the transition from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. The bridge was composed of planks with the 12 words from the Boy Scout Law.

Unfortunately Mason was suffering from the flu (or something similar), and wasn't able to attend in person. But he is already involved in the weekly BSA meetings.

His first trip with the BSA will be a camping trip to Disney World in Florida from December 29 until January 3. I won't be going with him, so it'll be his first "solo" scout trip.

As having served as assistant den leader for the Cub Scouts for the last few years, I'm glad to be "retired". I plan to go on some of Mason's trips (his troop averages a camping trip per month throughout the year), but only as an observer. The boys are responsible for their tents, meals, and activities; they truly are self-sufficient.

Pictures from the ceremony are here.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
