italy, day 5

posted by Michael Piwonka 7:11 PM
We checked out of our hotel in Rome, and boarded the Eurostar Italia train to Florence. I was very impressed with the train service: fast, simple, efficient. It definitely makes me want to explore Europe on a EuroPass, but that'll have to wait for another day.

From the train station, it was a short walk to our hotel, Hotel Caravaggio. After checking in, we walked to the Accademia Gallery (Firenze Galleria Dell'Accademia) to view Michelangelo's David.

We weren't allowed to take pictures inside the Gallery, so I don't have any of the statue. However, it is as magnificent as advertised. The entire Gallery is relatively small, but David makes it a must-see in Florence, if not the highlight of Florence.

In the afternoon, we walked around Florence, stopping at the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo. It is a beautiful spot to rest, watch people, take photos, and of course, enjoy some gelato.

I ended the day by having a glass of wine on the hotel's patio. It was another nice day indeed.
