tax penalty

posted by Michael Piwonka 8:44 PM
I received an unpleasant letter from the IRS the other day...I was assessed a penalty for not properly estimating quarterly taxes last year. Being self-employed, I made quarterly payments, but not enough according the IRS.

Fortunately, the penalty was only $150.29.

Interestingly, I actually ended up overpaying my taxes by $36.00 for the year. Consequently, the bill I received from the IRS was for the difference, or $114.29.

When I first received the letter, I thought it was my "stimulus" payment. Instead, I felt the slight sting that always comes when it's time to send more money to the federal government.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
