30-hour famine

posted by Michael Piwonka 3:21 PM
Allie's girl scout troop took part in a "30-hour Famine" to raise money and canned goods for homeless people. The activity fulfilled a community service requirement for the troop.

The fund raiser, which was sponsored by a local Episcopal church, included spending the night outside in a "cardboard shanty". Allie was tired, dirty and hungry this morning, but the event was capped with a huge breakfast celebration.

Allie said it was a lot of fun, and she felt proud to have only had water for 30 hours. The "famine" officially began at 4am Saturday morning and ended at 10am Sunday morning. However, since Allie last ate something at about 10m Friday night, she actually went about 36 hours without eating.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
