text messaging

posted by Michael Piwonka 9:41 PM
Allie and I spent Thursday evening together while Mason was at home recovering from his trip to the dentist. I don't get to spend time along with Allie that often, so it was a nice evening; we had dinner, and picked up a get-well gift for Mason.

But I also got to experience something disconcerting: Allie spent a great amount of the evening sending and receiving text messages on her cell phone. In fact, it became annoying as her phone would "ding" every few minutes as a new message arrived. And of course, Allie had to reply each time (not doing so would just be plain rude).

I believe she had three separate conversations going on simultaneously: two boys were competing for her attention, while a girlfriend was trying to get the latest gossip on some other girl. She appeared to be amused by the boys, and slightly inconvenienced by the girlfriend.

I don't think this bodes well for the future. I've been warned that I would have issues to address as Allie grows up...I get the impression that she is quite popular with her friends.

And I fear it will only get worse.

I came across your blog by accident while googling about something last night.

Text messaging is very concerning among young people these days. I am sure you'll stay on top of that with your children.

I am sorry to read you went through some hard time with divorce.
But it sounds you are doing well after one year later.

Best of luck to you!

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
