Scouting

Mason's Cub Scout pack has been keeping us busy lately. We went to the Lazy 5 Ranch on the same day that Allie had her fall CCC performance.
I really enjoyed seeing/feeding the animals at the ranch, but regrettably I forgot to bring my camera. The kids and I will just have to go back again to take pictures of the kids feeding the llamas, giraffes, emus, etc. The entire scout pack rode together on a horse-drawn wagon.

This past weekend Mason made a couple quick presentations to his den, one about Johnny Appleseed, and the other about the native Americans that aided the pilgrims. In the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, Mason told the den that while the pilgrims and natives had what we call the first Thanksgiving, the natives actually had six separate thanksgivings each year:

Mason did a wonderful job of presenting, and I was very proud of him, considering the arguments he and I had while preparing for the den meeting.

In about a week, we will be enjoying another Scout activity: we will have a Polar Express ride on the newly-opened light rail here in Charlotte, the Lynx System. Everyone, adults included, are looking forward to checking out the new train system.

The ride will take us from South Charlotte to downtown, where there will be various holiday-season activities, probably including a visit from Santa Claus himself.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
