middle school football

The week before last, Allie was excited (very excited) to attend her first middle school football game. Alexander Graham Middle School played their first game of the season, and won the game 20-to-6.

I'm not sure that Allie and Mason actually watched any of the game, but they did know the score so they were at least paying a little attention. They were having a blast visiting with their friends, enjoying the excitement of the moment.

I actually watched about half of the game, sitting by myself in the stands. Perhaps my memory is failing me, but the players, 7th and 8th graders, were much larger than I remembered when I was in middle school. Many of the kids were bigger than me, and probably have collegiate football opportunities in their future.

On the way home after the game, Allie couldn't help but repeat how exciting it is to be in middle school. She feels like a "big girl" now; I feel old.

I expect that we'll be going to more games this season: all the "home" games, and probably one "away" game, versus Carmel Middle School, where many of Allie's elementary school friends now attend.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
