trader joe's

posted by Michael Piwonka 8:02 PM
A Trader Joe's grocery stored opened in Charlotte a week or two ago; Mason and I decided to go check it out this morning.

The place was packed, as the newness of it's opening hasn't worn off yet. The store sells a lot of organic products, along with prepared foods (right up my alley), at reasonable prices. While I didn't buy any wine this morning, I noticed that there were bottles of wine for as little as $2.99/bottle; I may have to check out a bottle. After all, at $2.99 I don't have a lot to lose.

While we were waiting in the long lines to check out, Mason commented that everyone coming into the store was thin. I said that that probably wasn't an accident: a store that sells organic, healthy foods is going to be frequented by people who care about living healthily. It's similar, at least to me, as the recent study published in The New England Journal of Medicine indicating that obesity is "contagious".

When I got to the check-out counter, I asked the clerk about the cheap wines. He quickly corrected me, calling them "inexpensive", and said that I wouldn't be disappointed with them.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
