a sensitive man

As the kids and I were driving home after dinner last Wednesday, Mason asked me if I remembered his friend, Andre.

I replied that I did. Andre is a wonderful boy from Russia, who wears a tie to school every day, and has a penchant for professional wrestling. I remember him having a great sense of humor, laughing heartily.

Mason had asked the question as if he was about to tell me something about Andre, but after a few moments of silence, I looked over at Mason, only to see a tear running down his cheek. He was too choked up to continue the conversation.

I asked him what was wrong, and Mason said through his tears that Andre was moving back to Russia. I was saddened to see Mason upset that his friend was leaving, but I was also proud of him for wanting to discuss his feelings about Andre's departure.

I told Mason that we would make a card to give Andre before he left; that made him feel better. I told Mason to think about what he wanted to say in the card, and when we got together again, we would make the nicest card you could imagine.

I'm proud of what a good friend Mason is, and how he appreciates his friends. He is going to grow up to be a great man.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
