home theatre

This past weekend Allie and Mason helped me get my new home theatre working. I've still got a lot of work to do, with speakers sitting on boxes and speaker wires running around the room. But it's a fully functional home theatre, even with the collapsible chairs for seating.

I installed a 720p front projector on the ceiling. Installing a power outlet on the ceiling and running the video cable to the projector was the hardest part; crawling through the cramped, hot, dusty attic isn't something I want to do again anytime soon.

I hung a 92-inch-diagonal 16x9 screen on the front wall. It creates a very impressive picture, and coupled with the nice surround sound setup I've had for years, makes for a lot of fun. The kids and I watched two movies this weekend.

The next trick is figuring out how to run the speaker wires around the room. With limited access to run the wires through the attic, and no access to the exterior of the walls, I may hide the wires behind a chair rail...I'm still working on the easiest way to hide the wires.

Then I'll add a rug for comfort and acoustics, and black out the window either with a shade or curtains. Add seating and it's ready for the popcorn.
