scout campout

posted by Michael Piwonka 5:30 PM
Last weekend Mason, Allie and I went to Grandfather Mountain for a Scout campout.

We had a wonderful time, even though it was very cold Friday night, with temperatures around 37 degrees, along with gusty winds. However, the skies were clear, and we had a great hike on Saturday.

Part of the fun included roasting a whole pig. (If you're a vegetarian, don't even bother looking at the photo album.) The kids thought it was great fun to help season the pig. It was put on the pit at midnight Friday, and by Saturday evening, we had a wonderful dinner.

I'd recommend a trip to Grandfather Mountain to everyone, and also recommend the rigorous hikes there. Some of the trails are not for beginners, and some are even dangerous; we turned back at one point and retraced our path because of the difficulty of the hike. I may try the hike with other adults so I can decide if I want to take the kids through the more treacherous parts.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
