bridge to terabithia

For the last decade or so, I've been watching mainly G- or PG-rated movies, usually animated. I've probably seen almost all of Disney's offerings during that time (many of which I've seen more times than I care to remember).

But while the kids have dictated most of the movies I've seen, I would be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy most of those movies. Most of the kid movies these days are clever enough for adults to enjoy also.

This past weekend the kids and I went to see Disney's Bridge to Terabithia. Allie had read and enjoyed the book that the movie is based upon, and was eager to see the movie.

I would have to second Allie's suggestion: I thought the movie was one of the best children's movies I've ever seen. I think everyone would enjoy it, adults as well as kids.

While the movie is full of friendship, imagination and fantastic creatures, it discusses topics that I have not seen in a children's movie before. Although brief, the discussions on God introduce children (and dare I say some adults) to the possibility of different interpretations. I suppose I just found it a refreshing perspective given today's inflexible conservative religious culture.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
