lunch with mason

posted by Michael Piwonka 8:24 PM
On Wednesday I met Mason at his school for lunch, which is one of my favorite things to do. Even though I've done it numerous times before, I still get a chuckle at the speed with which everyone has to eat, at the short chair I have to sit in, and at the interrogations I get from the students.

A pretty young girl sat across from Mason and I, talking the entire time we ate. She told me about her pets, her classwork, another girl in the class that has a crush on Mason, what they do in art class, why boys are so strange, and on and on. I managed to ask her if Mason was a gentleman at school, and after pausing a moment, she said he was okay, but that he talked too much.

Well, that would make two of them then.

As always, we were clearing the table practically as soon as we sat down. The kids were off to class in an instant, and I smiled all the way back to work.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
