wired for sound

posted by Michael Piwonka 8:29 PM
I was contacted by a doctor last weekend to see if I would wire his new house for sound. The studs are still exposed, with insulation and sheetrock scheduled for late next week.

It seems that the architect I helped out recently told his client about me; the architect had gotten my name from one of my old neighbors that I had also helped set up a home theatre last year.

Actually I tried to gracefully decline the doctor since it appeared that he had waited until the last minute, and I didn't have enough time to help him before the sheetrock showed up. I tried to say that he needed to hire some professionals who were setup for these rush jobs; however, he wouldn't take no for an answer. What's more he would like me to wire the house for a local area network also.

So I've contacted a general contractor friend, who along with some hired hands to help with the chore, will join me in a couple days to evaluate the project.

The house will have 13 rooms and the patio wired for sound, each with its own volume control. A closet on the ground floor will house the audio equipment, as well as serve as the hub for the house's network.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
