Tonight I was talking with a friend who said she enjoys dancing, particularly ballroom dancing. She was excitedly explaining (in her wonderful Canadian accent) the various dances they do, and I quickly got the impression that they are very serious, maybe even participating in competitive dance.

I told her I was fascinated to learn more, and she said that her group has "social" dances where they do all types of dancing; it's a lot of fun, and you don't have to be an expert. She said I should attend the next one.

But then she suddenly apologized, saying that she had forgotten one thing: I wouldn't be able to attend because the dance was limited to people 35-years-old and older.

My ego has been out of control ever since.

I told her that I could come up with a fake ID, one that would make me older than 35. What's more, I just happen to have one on me right now!

But then she remembered that that wouldn't be necessary: the requirement was that members be at least 35; guests can be any age.

I'm looking forward to some ballroom dancing. I just hope it's not a black tie affair...

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
