caldwell, revisited

posted by Michael Piwonka 9:54 AM
I made a quick trip back to Caldwell on Thursday afternoon to visit mom again, and also to retrieve the kids' shoes that we had left on Tuesday. It was nice to take a trip by myself, taking in all the sights I remember from when I lived around here.

As I started back to Houston yesterday morning, I decided to drive through Caldwell to see how much the city has changed. Interestingly, but not really surprisingly, the city has changed little. However, the old Post Office on the town square has been converted to an art gallery, so I decided to stop in and check it out.

The gallery, Ransom Gallery, had some interesting things, along with some items that were a little too "country" for my taste. I decided to pick up a couple handmade night lights for the kids' rooms at my house.

Continuing my leisurely journey, I decided to drive through Hempstead instead of taking the bypass that was completed a decade or so ago. The effects of the bypass were quickly evident, effectively killing off many of the small businesses. I stopped by at a produce stand and purchased a watermelon.

I enjoyed the casual drive, but, unfortunately the watermelon was too ripe, and not edible.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
