When we were at the park yesterday, Mason befriended a young guy with a soccer ball. It didn't take Mason long to realize that his new friend was quite an accomplished soccer player. I believe it opened Mason's eyes to what a player can be.

While Mason didn't have enough time to learn new skills with the ball, I believe his friend impressed upon him the value of pure hustle. At this morning's game, Mason hustled like I've never seen him before. He didn't score a goal, but he assisted a couple in his team's easy win.

Teammates and team parents complimented him on his play, which further reinforced his new appreciation for hard work. Now he wants to practice continually, and is already talking about next week's game.

I'm glad he's realizing the relationship between hard work and results.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
