spring break, day 3

posted by Michael Piwonka 7:30 PM
Today we decided to buy an all-day pass on the Metro, which is the DC-area subway. It turned out to be a terrific way to get around, and the kids really enjoyed it. After making several transfers from one line to another, we became veterans of the subway.

The first place we visited was the Arlington National Cemetery. We were humbled by the size and importance of the place.

We also toured the Women's Memorial, which also had pictures of soldiers lost in Afghanistan and Iraq.

After eating lunch, we went to the National Zoo, where we ran into our friends, the Ives family. The zoo's trademark, the Giant Panda Bears, is the major draw to the zoo. Renovations are underway to create a new habitat for the them, which will further emphasize them.

I created an album for our zoo photos here.

On the way home, we stopped at a mall and purchased George Mason University shirts for Dennis and me. There were no shirts available from GMU in kids sizes, so we'll look again tomorrow for Allie and Mason.

The kids were very tired at the end of the day.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
