I replaced my old guestbook with a new one today, although they look practically identical on the surface. The new one, however, should help block spambots from flooding the guestbook with spam.

One of the methods used to prevent a bot from spamming the guestbook is to ask a simple question, requiring the answer before the entry will be accepted. In my case, I ask the question: What is the largest state in the USA? While this won't prevent human spamming, it will stop the automated spamming.

Another anti-spamming feature is a built-in delay between entries. Should the Alaska question fail, the bot will have to wait 60 seconds before it can enter again.

Unfortunately, I had to delete my existing database of entries, so the few real messages from friends were lost.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
