As soon as we made it to the farm, Mason was out and about, playing naturalist.

We were all surprised by the extent of the drought that Texas and Oklahoma have been experiencing. With a state-wide burn ban, our plans for a bonfire were interrupted. But that didn't stop Mason from searching for new and interesting things to see.

He managed to find an unusual bush with extraordinarily long thorns. Mason had to collect samples, so we pruned small samples that he put in a small plastic jar.

While none of us were sure of what type bush this was, Dennis speculated that it might be a type of acacia. Regardless, it's thorns dwarfed those of the locally famous mesquite tree.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
