A week ago the kids and I took a trip to the Biltmore Estate to view the incredible holiday decorations.

Visitors are not allowed to take pictures inside the house, but trust me when I say it was decorated beautifully. I gave the kids an assignment before we toured the house: count all the Christmas trees they saw. Neither was able to keep track of the total number, but I believe it was somewhere in the neighborhood of 60 to 70 trees!

One place we hadn't visited before during previous trips was the old farmhouse. We enjoyed the Belgian draft horses, the old tractors, and especially the blacksmith.

The blacksmith demonstrated how to make a keyring with a leaf on it (which, of course, are sold in the gift shop). It was fascinating to watch, and we had to buy a couple for souvenirs afterwards.

Pictures are posted here.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
