longhouse

posted by Michael Piwonka 5:30 AM
The dad's from Mason's Indian Guides tribe met last night to select officers and to plan future events, especially the overnight trip to longhouse this weekend.

I volunteered to be the Sand Painter, which basically means I will tell a story at each tribe meeting. The story should include a moral for the kids' benefit. Another dad in the group is an accomplished musician, and has volunteered to help me by playing his guitar from time to time.

Some of the dads who've had older kids go through the program gave us a quick run-down of the things we need to bring to longhouse, such as flashlights and rain ponchos. But one of the things they stressed was to bring ear plugs for sleeping. That sounds a little disconcerting to me.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
