first tribal meeting

posted by Michael Piwonka 9:29 PM
Tonight Mason and I attended our first Y Guides tribal meeting. We met at one of the dad's homes, and assembled little leather tomahawks as our craft.

All of the young braves were very excited, and listened intently as one of the dads explained how they will acquire feathers and badges throughout the year. Mason is already practicing the names of all his fellow braves; once he recites everyone's real and Indian name at a meeting, he will receive a red feather. At the end of the year, he will attach his various feathers awarded during the year to a coup stick.

Mason's brave name is Silver Eagle, and I'm Red Eagle. The tribe hasn't pick a tribal name yet; we will do that at our longhouse camping weekend next month.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
