The kids and I joined our neighbors, the Harts, to create our own fireworks display for the 4th of July. The kids particularly enjoyed the sparklers, which are probably the safest form of fireworks for small kids.

North Carolina outlaws any home fireworks that fly into the sky, such as bottle rockets and roman candles. Such restrictive laws have provided South Carolina, which is only a few miles from here, with an opportunity to sell and use much more interesting fireworks. Consequently, many people travel the short distance for fireworks fun.

However, the commercial fireworks displays here in Charlotte are quite impressive, but we missed them all this year. I think the kids had more fun putting on our own show.
