lasik surgery

Today Penny had lasik eye surgery at Horizon Eye Care to correct her vision.

I watched the procedure on a TV in a room adjacent to the operating room. It was simultaneously fascinating and disconcerting; I cringed a couple times as the doctor peeled back Penny's cornea, later returning it to its normal position using foreceps.

Once the procedure was finished (it took a couple minutes per eye), the doctor put some clear shields over Penny's eyes. She will wear them overnight for the next week, and will put various eye drops and antibiotics in her eyes during that week.

She complained that her eyes hurt more than she expected. The doctor said she would feel irritation in her eyes for the next couple days. He said that the procedure was very routine, and that everything looked normal.

Penny's vision will be slightly blurred the next couple days, but will rapidly improve.

I plan to have the procedure done also, as I have long since grown tired of glasses and contacts. My visions corrects to 20/10, and they told me today at the eye center that the surgery generally results in vision similar to what corrective lenses produce.

I can't wait to see how this turns out for Penny.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
