microchip

This weekend the vet implanted a microchip under Oliver's skin between his shoulder blades. This chip facilitates identification should Oliver become lost. I guess it provides a more permanent means of identification when compared to the nametag attached to his collar.
Supposedly it's about the size of a grain of rice. It was implanted via a syringe.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. Considering my upbringing, spending money like that on a pet seems sort of frivolous. And I wonder just how useful it would actually be.
Does this mean I should get a microchip implanted under my kids' skin? If I don't, does it mean my dog means more than my kids?
If nothing else, it makes for interesting conversation.Labels: family
