soccer games 2 and 3

This weekend we had a couple games, as we made up the rained-out game from last weekend.

Yesterday, our team did very well, and Mason scored two goals. He is really starting to come into his own, encouraged by his success at handling the ball. While he is generally one of the smaller guys on the pitch, he is also one of the most adept.

Today, Mason scored another goal. However, we were outplayed (and outscored, even though we don't "officially" keep score). Since it was a make-up game, I was not surprised that we had a couple no-shows for today's game. If we had been at full strength, I think we would have done much better (however, the other team was also missing a couple players).

The most encouraging thing is that the team is starting to realize the fun that comes from hustling and wanting to get better. I've seen improvement, particularly among the more reserved players.

Starting with this week's practice (assuming we don't get rained out by Hurricane Jeanne), we will start using a defensive player to help the goalie defend against break-aways. I think the team is starting to get keen enough about the game to be able to start playing a semblance of positions in the field.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
