garage door

posted by Michael Piwonka 8:44 PM
This Labor Day weekend was dominated by our garage door and the accompanying automatic opener.

The door jammed on Thursday, with one side about a foot lower than the other. One of the cables came off track, causing unequal weight to be exerted on the door. The door twisted in its tracks, and a couple of the windows shattered.

Penny called a garage door expert on Saturday; he replaced the cables, lubricated the rollers and hinges, and reset the door.

However, the garage door opener stopped working right after the door was fixed (which actually wasn't a surprise since it had been failing occasionally).

Today, a new opener was installed, and I replaced the broken windows with plexiglass (since Home Depot didn't have glass panes large enough); we appear to be back to normal. That is, after spending several hundred dollars total...

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
