school uniforms

Penny has managed to talk the kids into wearing uniforms to school this year, even though the school doesnt't require it (in fact, the principal has said that she doesn't even want to suggest it to the PTA).

So we went out this evening and purchased a "starter" set of clothes for the kids, complete with khaki and navy blue shorts/pants, and basic white and blue polo shirts. We will add long-sleeve shirts and sweaters later when the weather demands.

We hope that the kids don't feel out of place. Actually we expect that some parents are going to like the idea, and may attempt to talk their kids into it. Who knows, this may be the start of a new trend at Sharon Elementary School.

But I should add that part of "talking the kids into the idea" included a bribe: Penny told the kids that she would put $250 in each kid's savings account if they would agree to the uniforms (which means it will be part of their college savings, which they receive anyway!). But we won't do it until the kids have demonstrated they can stay with the plan for a couple weeks.

Also, we have given them Fridays to wear normal clothes if they want.

We expect that this will make getting ready in the morning so much easier. There will be no need to debate what to wear -- simply grab a clean uniform and get on the bus!

One other thing, we will have the shirts embroidered with SES after a couple weeks. This is supposed to make the uniforms seem even "cooler".

This will be an interesting experiment to follow...

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
