emergency room

We had a scare this morning when Penny developed severe stomach pains at about 10 am. She didn't know what caused it, but she was in such pain that she couldn't even walk, crawling on her knees to take some Pepto, hoping it would help.

Prior to the pain, Mason had punched her in the stomach when he and Allie were boxing with me in the dining room. I don't believe it caused the situation; the doctor later concurred.

We quickly decided to go to the emergency room, thinking it could be an appendicitis. When we got about half way to the hospital, Penny threw up in the car (pink from the Pepto!), which I learned is a common occurrence with an appendicitis.

However, Penny started feeling much better after that. By the time the emergency room doctor got to see her, Penny was feeling weak and sore, but much better.

After blood and urine tests, along with a physical exam, the ER determined that Penny was healthy. They even did an x-ray to check her bowels: everything checked out okay.

At this point, Penny started fretting the medical expenses she was running up for what appeared to be an excruciating but temporary problem. Since we're members of a Health Savings Account (HSA), we have a large deductable, which means we'll be paying for today's episode out of pocket. Consequently, Penny started asking the nurse for the cheapest alternatives when she wanted to perform tests!

The bottom line is that Penny feels a little weak this evening, but otherwise seems to be okay. Hopefully it was just a fluke occurrence that we'll never need to figure out.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
