spam blocker

posted by Michael Piwonka 7:54 AM
I believe I may have found a very effective spam blocking tool for Microsoft Outlook users. Since I've only been using it for a short time, I may be a little premature in my judgement, but the results so far are encouraging.

The tool, called SpamBayes, uses Bayesian statistical analysis to determine whether an incoming email is spam or not. After you manually identify some email as spam or ham (good emails), the program uses those emails as basis for statistical analysis of new emails.

After a very short trial period, the program appears to work perfectly. And the best part is that it's open source and free!

Here is a Computerworld story about it. However, be aware that the latest version for downloading isn't on the home page, but can be found here.

If I encounter any issues with the tool, I'll post an update.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
