I had to talk with Mason's teachers yesterday morning after he had an "incident" the day before. Mason had some conflict with a girl classmate; the two of them have had issues before.

When Mason got home yesterday, he was very upset about the whole situation, not so much with the little girl (he can just ignore her since he "doesn't like her"), but more with the teacher who interceded. As it turns out, she was (and has been consistently) overly harsh with Mason. (This teacher was Mason's teacher last year.)

His confidence has been hurt to the point that he doesn't want to go to school anymore. I talked with his current teachers, and they were very aware of the situation with this particular teacher. While I stressed that I'm sure Mason wasn't completely innocent in his confrontation with the classmate, I mentioned that I felt a teacher working with children this young shouldn't be so harsh as to scare them.

His current teachers agreed. Penny talked with one of them today, and they told her they had talked with the school administrator yesterday.

All that we've requested is that the teacher in question does something to restore Mason's confidence, be it as simple as a quick word of encouragement. He has about one month left at this school, and we want him to have pleasant memories of the place.

We'll see how this story ends.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
