After helping Mason with his project about Clifford the Big Red Dog, I found myself helping Allie with her school assignment. Allie was working on a report on the Canada Lynx, and she had the idea to create a jigsaw puzzle out of a picture of the lynx.

Without an easy way to cut the unusually-shaped pieces of a normal jigsaw puzzle, we decided to just cut square and rectangular tiles since that would be much easier. So we downloaded a picture of a couple lynx (or lynxes, both are acceptable plurals), printed it, pasted it to some mat board, then cut it into tiles.

The most interesting part is that, even with simple shapes, the picture is actually somewhat difficult to put together if you don't have a completed picture to look at (similar to the picture on the box of a jigsaw puzzle).

Allie is excited to show it off on Monday, and, coupled with her research on lynx, I'm sure her teacher will like it also.

random. arbitrary. completely unnecessary. yet refreshingly therapeutic.
